(WFMJ) America Makes in Youngstown, Ohio has received $9 million from the U.S. Department of Defense, for phase three of the Maturation of Advanced Manufacturing for Low-Cost Sustainment. The project will allow The U.S. Air Force, with the help of America Makes, to use 3D printing technology to replace aging parts that are no longer available.
Rob Gorham, Executive Director of America Makes, says it’s an award that will keep the Department of Defense from struggling to find suppliers. “It’s extremely important because if you think about the age of systems our department of defense has; they’re very very old. And the problem with that is, it’s hard to repair parts because in some cases suppliers don’t exist,” said Gorham.
