(Inside3DPrinting.com)  Terry Wohlers, Principal Consultant and President of Wohlers Associates, Inc., braved the snowstorm and arrived to present the keynote at the Inside3D Printing Conference at the Javits Center in New York City last week. Wohlers focus was on the future of additive manufacturing. As Megatrends author John Naisbitt once said, “The most reliable way to forecast the future is to understand the present” and that’s where Wohlers Associates spends most of its effort.
Wohlers explained his efforts place a lot of value in extending trend lines. One trend he reported is a dramatic increase in the number of third-party materials available for AM machines. Another is the number of manufacturers of AM equipment, the competition that has been created, and the increased range of choices that customers now have. These trends extend beyond the West and into much of Asia, South Africa, and even South America. Large corporations, such as Airbus and GE, are examples of tremendous investment and adoption of AM technology, especially for metal parts. Wohlers explained in a statement to Inside3DPrinting.com, “What we are seeing among these examples and countless other companies is nothing short of extraordinary.”
